“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures” (Proverbs 24:3-4).
Our theme for Lutheran Schools Week 2017 is “Upon this Rock.” What an awesome theme for all of us to focus on, not only during Lutheran Schools Week (January or March), but also throughout our lives!
My journey started in a God-fearing family. They wanted me to grow strong in knowledge and understanding, so they brought me to the waters of Baptism and then onto a small Lutheran school in the Detroit area. God placed so many faith–filled servants in my path. These servants showed me that my faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior needed to be a part of life. They were examples in and out of the house and classroom, watering the seed that was planted and faithfully keeping at bay the weeds that would try to invade. God already had His plan for me!
As I grew, God placed that plan on my heart–He wanted me to be one of those servants, planting, watering, and tending His little ones. God called me once again to a small Lutheran school, this time in the thumb of Michigan, in a different role. “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11).
His plan continues as He has placed many little ones in my path. Now, I have the privilege to watch as these little ones, who are His treasured possession, grow and polish the gifts and talents they have been blessed with. They are continuing to help their children, and others around them, to build, grow and spread the wonderful Good News of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. I count it a blessing to have the opportunity to work for our God in His harvest field.
God has blessed each of His servants, whether young or older, with numerous and diverse talents. The influences that we are blessed by in our faith journey help us use these talents for Him. It begins small and grows tremendously with the love and grace we receive from our Father. Our Rock, Jesus Christ, is a solid foundation! On this Rock, we, as Lutheran educators and fellow believers, have a wonderful opportunity to aid the construction of so many lives for eternity! Let’s continue to build, polish and follow His plan for those treasures that God places in our journey for Christ!
