Retirement – The Ecstasy and the Agony!2 min read

Bob and Sue are recent empty-nesters. They’ve put their kids through college and are now looking at retirement. Though it is still eight years away, they realize that it is not too early to plan. They hope to make a smooth transition into retirement. But how? There is so much to consider! Finances! Health Care! Where to live! What to do in retirement! Should they stay at the church and school at which they are currently ministering? It seems so overwhelming! They need help.

Today you are actively involved in your ministry and thoughts of retirement might not yet have crossed your mind; but what once seemed years away is closer than ever. Do you need help in planning? The Michigan District’s Commission on Ministerial Growth and Support is once again sponsoring a Pre-Retirement Planning Conference to help guide you through the process.

Here is what a couple of past attendees have shared:

“One of the best – if not the best – workshops we have attended as a couple in years! We especially appreciated how it addressed life and living issues, and not just finances.”

“The insights offered by fellow church workers who have recently retired, as well as the opportunity for informal conversations throughout the conference, were invaluable.”

The Presenter

Paul Snyder from Concordia Plan Services has been doing an outstanding job in leading these conferences. He will address questions you may have, including:

  • Will I have enough retirement income?
  • What do I need to know about Social Security?
  • Where will I live?
  • How will I handle health concerns?
  • What will I do with my time?
  • Who will I be in retirement?
  • How will I live out my faith commitment?
  • When is it best to announce my retirement?
  • and many more . . .

The Panel

A panel of retired professional church workers will give insights based on personal experience. They will share what they know now about retirement that they wish they knew when they were planning for it.

Pre-Retirement Planning Conference

The conference will take place January 29-30, 2016 at the Bay Valley Resort in Bay City, Mich. Here is the agenda for our time together:

Friday evening – 6-9 p.m.

You will learn what Concordia Health Plans offer regarding retirement.

Saturday – 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

We will cover various issues for your consideration in retirement planning, including insights from the panel of retired professional church workers.
