Being the least anxious presence in the room (a working definition for a well differentiated leader/pastor) requires a leader who takes self-care seriously and consistently. We’ll explore together how to function in non-anxious, healthy ways – in your spirit, body, mind, relationships, and ministry context. You will leave this conference with concrete action plans for how to grow and maintain such health.

Rev. John Rathje
Rev. John Rathje is an LCMS-endorsed Specialized Spiritual Care Minister, currently the Church Worker Mental Health Support Coordinator for the Michigan District, LCMS (part-time), and the Dean of Students at Concordia University Ann Arbor, Mich. (CUAA, full time). He has served in a variety of roles, from mission pastor and college professor to licensed therapist, youth director, elementary teacher, Army Captain, and barista. A husband, father, and grandfather who cherishes time with family and friends, he enjoys reading, walking, and having conversations! God has blessed John to earn: teaching degree (B.A.) from Saginaw Valley State University; LCMS Teacher’s Diploma from Concordia University Ann Arbor; M.A. in Counseling from Michigan State University; and M.Div. from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo.

Rev. Mark Gilson
Rev. Mark Gilson has served in the Michigan District for 26 years in multiple congregations and ministry settings. Now serving as a full-time IIM, Mark enjoys reading, fly fishing, and connecting people to the life-saving person and work of Jesus. Mark and his wife Laura have four children and one daughter-in-law.
