The Helpers1 min read

To celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week, we have collected devotions written by elementary school children. The following was written by a student named Finn from Bethlehem Lutheran School in Saginaw.

“The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28:)

“Hey, guys. Do you want to start a club?”

“Yes. That sounds like a great idea. What should we call it?”

“How about ‘The Helpers’?”

“Great name! Who should we help first?”

“How about the woman next door?”

“Yeah. Sounds great! Let’s go.”

(knock knock)

“Hello boys.”

“Hi. We are the helpers. Can we do anything for you?”

“Yes, you can. Can you please go in the back yard and rake the leaves?”

“Yes, we can.”

(later)

“All done.”

“How much do I owe you kids?”

“Nothing. Having Jesus is our payment.”

Prayer:  God, help all of us to serve each other and even our enemies. God, help Covid-19 to go away, and help all of us to stay safe. Amen.

What a wonderful story. His great grandparents would be as proud as his great aunt is! Keep up the good work Finn.

A great lesson in very succinct message. What a world we would have if all of us Christians lived by this example.
