More than 100 hats and mittens and more than 200 pairs of socks were collected by students of Trinity Lutheran School in Clinton Township, Mich. These warm winter items were donated to the homeless through Family of God, Detroit, which is supported by Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Livonia, Mich. and other Michigan District congregations. The ministry of Family of God is to offer the hope of Jesus Christ through forgiveness and renewal of the Gospel, the unconditional love of Christians, and refuge from the hopelessness of the streets.
Throughout National Lutheran Schools Week, students brought in new socks, mittens or hats to be given to those in need. The school teamed up with Family of God, one of the church’s missions, to gather the winter gear to help keep the homeless warm this winter.
The concept was part of the Serve Together portion of the school’s celebration of National Lutheran Schools Week. Students across the United States celebrated their schools, teachers and those devoted to providing them with a Lutheran education.
Trinity marked National Lutheran Schools Week with several different activities including Mustache Monday, Green and White Day, Dress Up for Jesus, Decades Day, Crazy Hat and Socks Day as well as praying and praising together, creating placemats for those in a local nursing home and meeting a local children’s book author.
