Together we grieve the events in one of our Michigan communities. We are saddened by the tragedy that took place at a congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Grand Blanc on Sunday, and we pray for healing and peace in the community.
Later that day, I was in touch with both of the pastors at Faith Lutheran, Grand Blanc, as well as with our District Parish Nurse, who is a member there. The shooting and fire took place about one mile from Faith. The congregation had emergency procedures in place and immediately went into a preplanned lockdown until an all-clear was given by local authorities. The congregation is now working on ways to bring blessings to the community in the face of the tragedy. [update: Mlive article]
For more information about their support of the Grand Blanc community, contact churchoffice@faithgb.org.
The District encourages our congregations to have emergency procedures in place for all types of emergencies: weather, health, and intruder. We should be prepared to protect the people under our care. Check out this District resource or contact the District Office if your congregation needs help in developing procedures. At the same time, we anticipate our congregations will also be eager to serve their communities in the face of tragic circumstances.
Together we serve the Gospel of Jesus, bringing hope into difficult situations, in a world that continues to see “Cain killing Abel.”

Dear President (Pastor) Davis,
I would like to sincerely thank you for sending such a clear and thoughtful message to our Lutheran congregations to not only be diligent and prepared, a very necessary plan in our world today. Also I appreciate you reaching out to another church that although they do not carry our Lutheran umbrella, the LDS community definitely believes that Jesus Christ is our Savior! Sincerely, Monica

Being located next to Kearsley High School, St Mark Flint has both procedures to serve as a reunification site and shelter for KHS, as well as Active Shooter procedures.
However, in light of this event, we are taking another look at our processes with our local police force to ensure a clear plan and partnership.
Thank you for reinforcing the need to do this!!!
It’s been a blessing to see Faith’s and Gloria Dei Lutheran’s response to the community!!!
The Lutheran Comfort Dog program is such a blessing to all as well!

Thank you, Pastor Davis for these words and these encouragements. We at St. Michael Lutheran, Wayne were in worship when the shooting at Crosspointe Church 1 mile down the road was happening this past summer. A couple of children in our school were there when it occurred. We’ve started a security task force that has its first meeting this coming Monday. The Lord is in charge, but I believe He expects us to be smart.
