Lutherans For Life of Michigan Essay Contest Winners2 min read

Students throughout Michigan participated in this year’s Lutherans For Life of Michigan essay contest with the theme “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” (Psalm 139:14), and we are excited to share the results!

In the high school division of the contest, Senior Sadie Silcox from Lutheran North took First Place for her essay on the gift of foster care, explaining that it “can be viewed as an extension of God’s love and care for His creation, acknowledging the worth and dignity of each child.” Sadie’s essay, which has also won Second Place at the national Lutherans For Life contest, leaves the reader in awe and gratitude for God’s gift of every child and the honor we have of caring for them. Freshman Fiona Rohde from Trinity, Reed City took Second Place for her essay shining a light on common effects of abortion on mental health as we seek to care for women considering having an abortion and women struggling with a past abortion.

In the elementary division, Christiana Klamer (7th grade) from St. Paul, Fowler took First Place for her essay on the temptation of euthanasia and the blessed truth of God’s authority and comfort in death. Finally, Calah Keup (8th grade) from Trinity, Reed City took Second Place for her essay on the gift of adoption and the beautiful value with which God has created all people, including those waiting for a family.

We thank God for all the students who participated in this year’s contest and for their Gospel-motivated voices for life! (Stay up to date on future essay contests and other events at www.lflmi.org and www.facebook.com/lflmi.)
