The Hymnal Project1 min read

In early 2017, a group of artists, arrangers, and liturgists, led by Peter Prochnow, were commissioned through the Michigan District, LCMS to create several new hymn arrangements, based on the original music, intended to facilitate enhanced worship in a multitude of modern musical contexts.

The spirit of the project is simple: Hymns are arranged with various instrumentations and made available free of charge, in the form of a lead sheet and reference recording, so whether you learn by reading or by hearing, you can easily implement these arrangements and modify for your context without cost.

We are grateful for the generosity of the donors, Carl and Patsy Fabry, in partnership with the Michigan District, LCMS.

Peter Prochnow’s Dad, Ron(ald) was my neighbor & colleague when we were both Cantors at two of Chicago’s largest Lutheran parishes (he at St. John’s Mayfair, & I was at The Church of St. Luke). We had annual Three-Choir Festivals with Messiah. A few years later, Ron was at Trinity, Orlando, & I was at Grace, Winter Haven, FL. That treasured friendship endured for years until Ron’s untimely Transfer to the heavenly choir.

What beautiful timing! I am just now preparing a Ladies Advent Bible Study based upon hymns and the scriptures from which they derive and contemplating the best way to present the audio. Perfect! Thank you for the project and blessings on the continuing work.
