Covid-19 Grants for Church Workers

Soldiers of the Cross COVID-19 Response Initiative Grants Available

LCMS Soldiers of the Cross, LCMS World Relief and Human Care, LCMS Disaster Response, The Lutheran Church Extension Fund, districts and district church extension funds, and individual donors have teamed up to provide funding for Soldiers of the Cross to relieve the immediate financial crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who can apply?

  1. LCMS-rostered ordained or commissioned ministers;
  2. surviving spouses of retired LCMS-rostered ordained or commissioned ministers;
  3. non-rostered (lay) LCMS district, church, school, or RSO employees;
  4. church workers from partner churches who are residing in the USA.

Applications for up to $2,000 in assistance are now being accepted. The national effort is providing 80% of the funding and the Michigan District, LCMS will provide 20% from its Sowers Fund. The Sowers Fund is a perpetual fund of the Michigan District which provides financial assistance for church workers for counseling services and other financial needs. The Sowers Fund is graciously funded by donations from individuals, conference offerings, and the Church Extension Fund of The Michigan District.

Your application will be reviewed by our District President, Rev. Dr. David P. E. Maier. Once eligibility is confirmed, the District will provide a letter of endorsement along with the application to Synod. Funds will be distributed as soon as your application has been approved.
