What’s In Your Hands?2 min read

The picture above was the winning entry by Lutheran High School Northwest, Rochester Hills student Megan Stidwell in the school’s annual contest to design a Christmas card. Megan took her own hands and put this ornament of baby Jesus in them to accompany the Scripture verse. This is one great example of how students in our Lutheran Schools seek to share the message of Christ with families and their community.  You see, Megan’s Art teacher, Jeff Davis, believes it is important to integrate the faith into his Art courses. Much the same as John Brandt at Lutheran High North, Macomb weaves his faith into every English class he teaches, and Bev Feldkamp at Saginaw Valley High interjects her faith into her Global Perspectives class. This scenario is repeated in Lutheran elementary schools and Early Childhood centers across the District. The great thing about a Lutheran school education is that academic classes are taught from a Lutheran Christian perspective that integrates the faith into every area of a student’s life. Over 14,824 students from preschool to high school receive this type of education in Michigan District schools.

Hopefully, this Advent Season, your hands and heart might contain a prayer for those who teach and learn in Lutheran Schools. I’d ask you to consider folding your hands and pray that Lutheran Educators continue to support moms and dads in forming young men and women who not only know academics but know Jesus. Consider praying that students might use their time and talents to express a Biblical Christian worldview that stands in sharp contrast to the message of our culture. Finally, perhaps your hands might also contain the hand of a small child, who in the future could benefit from daily learning about the Savior, Emmanuel, at your community Lutheran School.
