Pray in Times of Trouble1 min read

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea” (Psalms 46:1–2).

In our lives we sin and have troubles, but we should not be afraid. We can pray for forgiveness and ask for strength and guidance. God forgives us from our sins and through prayer He gives us the wisdom and strength to overcome our troubles and fears.

We should not fear because we know God is with us at all times. He watches over us and keeps us safe. He makes us strong through His Word and, on our last day or when He comes again, we don’t need to be afraid because we will live in Heaven with Him. There we will be perfect, won’t sin, or have troubles anymore. Prayer is very important in our times of troubles. Here is one you can say when you think you need God’s help:

Prayer for Strength When Grieving

Lord, at the moment nothing seems to be able to help the loss I feel.

My heart is broken and my spirit mourns.

All I know is that your grace is sufficient.

This day, this hour

Moment by moment

I choose to lean on You,

For when I am at my weakest Your strength is strongest

I pour out my grief to You

And praise You on one glorious day

When all suffering is extinguished and love has conquered

We shall walk together again.*

About the Author

National Lutheran Schools Week provides nearly 2,000 preschools, elementary schools and high schools with the public opportunity to proclaim and celebrate God’s work among us in schools of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. We thank God for the opportunity to provide excellent academic preparation for the children we serve. We are most grateful for the opportunity to share Jesus’ amazing love with children and their families. National Lutheran Schools Week gives us an opportunity to proclaim these great blessings within the communities we serve. Our schools are amazing incubators for faithful witness of God’s love for us through Christ by teachers and students alike. lcms.org
