Pandemic Preparedness1 min read

The Michigan District has updated its resources for advance preparation in the event that a pandemic (for example, the Coronavirus) occurs. We have compiled new information to help congregations and schools begin to prepare for a pandemic by addressing key issues that impact the delivery of essential services and operations.

A pandemic is a disease event in which a serious, highly contagious virus could be spread around the world affecting a large number of people. A pandemic occurs when a new virus emerges and there is little or no immunity to it in the human population. It spreads easily and quickly from person to person and/or through the air. The impact on society would likely be more serious, potentially affecting even healthy individuals. In addition to the physical impact on humans, the economic and societal effects of a severe pandemic could be very great.

The purpose of sharing these resources is not to spread fear, but simply to help congregations and schools take reasonable steps to prepare for any event of this kind.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27 ESV).

We are suspending the use of the Common cup at this time for Communion. We are also advising our Altar guild to glove up when handling the service ware after service.
