“God doesn’t give you more than you can handle.”
Have you ever had this said to you? Have you then felt guilty because you were overwhelmed with suffering and thought that God was indeed giving you more than you could handle?
The good news is that this is NOT what the Bible says! This popular quote is a misunderstanding of the Bible verse in 1 Corinthians 10:13. That verse is referring to sin, not suffering. The bad news is that suffering does exist and it can overwhelm us. But there’s more good news: Jesus Himself knows what it’s like to feel this way! In Matthew 26:38 He says, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.” He really understands how you feel. And He can carry you through your suffering.
