SUMMARY:The Habakkuk Project
DESCRIPTION:The Old Testament prophet Habakkuk asked God to answer deep and troubling questions. “O Lord\, how long shall I cry for help\, and you will not hear? Or cry to you ‘Violence!’ and you will not save? Why do you make me see iniquity\, and why do you idly look at wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise. So the law is paralyzed\, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; so justice goes forth perverted” (Habakkuk 1:2–4). \n\nBecause these are questions we wrestle with in urban ministry\, the Michigan District is gathering individuals from local congregations to participate in a distinct\, immersive experience at Franklin Avenue Mission\, a local District urban ministry campus in Flint. It is a Recognized Service Organization (RSO) of the LCMS with a 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. \nThe Michigan District’s strategic plan includes supporting RSOs that work with and in urban centers to share Christ’s love. Franklin Avenue Mission is in the most crime-ridden\, poverty-stricken neighborhood in Flint\, Michigan (48506). The staff works daily to provide shelter\, food\, and other basic needs as well as education\, fellowship\, and Christ-centered counsel and encouragement. An ordained pastor is on staff to work with both staff and residents. \nVisionary leaders at the campus pursue solutions every day\, some days taking two steps forward and other days taking two steps backward. The District’s goal is to strengthen the ties between this urban ministry and individuals in our congregations who will grow in the stewardship of their gifts of prayer\, volunteering\, and finances. At the same time\, we will encourage community members and individuals from congregations to recognize\, embrace\, and collaborate with their different forms of wealth and giftedness that all come from our God and Father. \nUrban community residents will join invited guests for an offsite meal with table conversations to share their stories and experiences. Urban ministry leaders will share a compelling presentation full of stories\, numbers\, statistics\, and plans for ministry growth and support. Participants will have an opportunity to travel to the campus to see and hear for themselves what has been done and what God can do with their help in accomplishing His mission in that place. \nThis event is sponsored by the Michigan District\, LCMS with generous funding from The Bolick Foundation.

SUMMARY:FASTER School Safety Training
DESCRIPTION:Who is this for? \nThis training is open to any Lutheran educator in the Michigan District who is actively working in a school environment. This is for both administrators and teachers who are considering armed staff in their school and need to have the proper training. \nWhat is the Faster Training? \nhttps://fastersaveslives.org/  \nThis training is broken into two sessions: Foundations and Level I. The Foundations session is about a month prior to the main Level I class. It starts from the ground up. It provides every trainee with the basics of safe firearms handling and fundamentals. The Foundations class establishes good habits and allows students time before the main class to grow in areas where they are lacking\, so they can be successful and enjoy the full Level I training. \nThe Level I training is the main three-day class. There are a variety of shooting drills to push your capabilities and skills. At the end\, you will have to qualify and exceed the MI police academy standards. Along with the firearms training\, there are valuable scenario drills that force you to think and react in a variety of situations. There is a strong emphasis on leading and communicating through stressful situations and how to provide trauma medical. You will graduate from this training with the confidence and skills needed to protect your school. \nDates \nMI Foundations – Saturday\, May 16\, 2026 \nMI Level I – June 17-19\, 2026 \nApplication Process \nDue to the personalized nature of the training\, there are only 20 slots available. DESCRIPTION:Too often in today’s world\, we treat meals in a transactional way\, simply as a means of getting fuel into our bodies to move on to the next activity. It can happen to all of us on occasion\, but when we do this habitually\, something vital\, something God-given\, gets lost. Meals are a significant way to build and maintain community. In our time together\, Rev. Whitby will lead us in reflection in three areas of focus: \n\nWhat is going on today for the Church and in our world that challenges our witness of the Gospel.\nPractical ways of reimagining our homes and our tables for Christian hospitality.\nShare how a view of meals in the Scripture\, as drawn from his book\, can provide a biblical grounding for our meals today.

This free event offers the opportunity to tour a world-class facility and learn more about this exciting venture. \nCrossPointe Center for the Trades is a vocational school developed by the Michigan District in partnership with the established Southeast Michigan Construction Academy (SEMCA). Through this partnership\, students receive hands-on training in a variety of construction trades—including carpentry\, electrical\, and HVACR—to prepare for a career of skilled service. Alongside their trade education\, students will also grow in their faith through courses that connect Christian theology and daily life\, as well as develop essential “soft skills” such as teamwork\, conflict resolution\, and effective communication. \nSchedule  \n5:30-6:15 p.m. – Presentations by the Michigan District\, LCMS & SEMCA \n6:15-7 p.m. – Tour of the facilities

DESCRIPTION:“Let all that you do be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14) and “Speaking the truth in love\, we are to grow up in every way into Him who is the head\, into Christ” (Ephesians 4:15). \nPastors’ wives often find themselves navigating complicated interpersonal dynamics: Congregational expectations\, unsolicited opinions\, and the emotional weight of their husbands’ vocations. This webinar helps us discern what true Christian love looks like\, clarifying the distinction between merely being “nice” and living out biblical love that is honest\, wise\, and grounded in Christ. How do we also navigate these personal/professional relationships? Well\, we will explore how Scripture calls us to speak truth with humility\, set godly boundaries\, and practice love that builds up the Body of Christ rather than enabling harm or dysfunction. \nYou will have two opportunities to join us on Zoom\, June 6 at 10 a.m. or 4 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:We are so excited for the 2026 Michigan District High School Gathering! \nThe theme for the 2026 gathering\, based on John 4:14\, is MIGHTY WATERS: “But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed\, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”   \nMackinac Island is the perfect location for this theme. Being surrounded by water on the island\, we will be reminded of the peace that water can bring as well as the mighty power and strength of water. But the mighty water of the Straits of Mackinac pales in comparison to the power of water together with God’s Word\, and the saving power that we receive through it. \nWe know this gathering is a commitment. Thank you for prioritizing this event in your ministry. Mission Point is under new ownership and costs are rising but\, through many significant financial gifts and the hearts of gracious people\, we are able to defray the cost of this year’s gathering and offer this event for $599 per person. This includes 4 days and 3 nights at Mission Point\, a round-trip ferry ride\, 7 meals\, servant events\, a gathering t-shirt\, and all the faith-filled and fun programming. \nThe committee\, along with the support of the District Office staff\, has been working hard to make this gathering a possibility. \nBecause of Him – \nThe Executive Committee of the High School Youth Gathering
