DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Transitional Interim Ministry (TIM)\nThe “Introduction to Transitional Interim Ministry” conference is designed for those who are considering TIM as a part-time ministry when they retire. Attendance at an introductory conference\, commitment to this ministry\, and District-sponsored continuing education are required to be recognized as a Michigan District Transitional Interim Pastor. \nThere is a $55 fee to attend this conference\, which will include books and a manual. (Lodging will be covered by the districts.) \nTrainers:  Rev. Dr. Robert E. Kasper and Rev. Dr. Scott Sommerfeld \nObjectives: To become knowledgeable of … \n\nThe “Developmental Tasks” of a congregation during pastoral transition.\nThe “Process Tasks” of the Transitional (Interim) Pastor.\nThe theology of Interim Ministry.\nA growing awareness of congregational systems.\nLeading through “self-differentiation.”\n\nPurpose: To provide an adequate knowledge base and practical application\, so that participating pastors are enabled to discern whether this specialized ministry is for them; and be the informed foundation for serving congregations in this manner in the future. \nTraining Methods: A combination of video\, lecture\, group discussion\, case studies\, and some role play.

In an ongoing effort to connect more effectively with our congregations\, the BOD has been inviting congregation members to get to know the Board and understand its function. Past events have presented information about the BOD and outlined what resources are available to our member congregations from the District. \nIn this meeting\, we are asking congregations to share some brief stories of their successes (and not-so successes)\, that we all might learn from them and generate ideas on how to more effectively spread the good news of the Gospel. The BOD would like to pass along these stories so that we may better serve the District. \nPlease join us at Historic Trinity\, Detroit for an evening of Christian brotherhood and discussion.

This free event offers the opportunity to tour a world-class facility and learn more about this exciting venture. \nCrossPointe Center for the Trades is a vocational school developed by the Michigan District in partnership with the established Southeast Michigan Construction Academy (SEMCA). Through this partnership\, students receive hands-on training in a variety of construction trades—including carpentry\, electrical\, and HVACR—to prepare for a career of skilled service. Alongside their trade education\, students will also grow in their faith through courses that connect Christian theology and daily life\, as well as develop essential “soft skills” such as teamwork\, conflict resolution\, and effective communication.

After gathering at Messiah for an introduction to the philosophy behind the ministry\, you’ll spend time in the community to see it in action—gaining insight into the structure\, driving force\, and heart within Messiah’s ministry to the community. \nWe always encourage each attendee to make a return trip and bring others with you so they can experience for themselves what it means to go beyond the breakwater. Not only that\, but those returning will gain new insights as well. This is an excellent opportunity for that return trip. Why? \nThis special Beyond the Breakwater on Thursday\, December 11\, offers a special opportunity: a hands-on workshop experience. The day begins with a presentation\, followed by visits to Messiah’s various ministries\, where you’ll see the principles you’ve learned in action. Then\, here’s the special add-on: you’re invited to stay for a one-time annual event called Parent Shopping Night—a cherished Messiah ministry event where families can purchase brand-new toys for pennies on the dollar\, ensuring every child wakes up to a gift on Christmas morning. \nAs a guest\, you’ll get to simply observe\, learn\, and have those divine moments with those in our community that we serve by simply getting the pleasure to care for and love on them—no planning\, pressure\, or logistics\, just a chance to witness a unique\, replicable model of community ministry. \nParent Shopping Night is 6-8 p.m.\, with volunteers (that’s you) starting at 4 p.m. Plan for a late night and long day\, but a day that you’ll leave never being the same.

And if they did ask us\, would we be prepared to give an account of the hope that is within us? \nDon’t miss our Congregational Ministry Summit that will help you both be better enabled to live a life that evokes questions and be better prepared to give an account of that inner hope in Christ. \nOur theme verse is 1 Peter 3:15 “… but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy\, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” \n\nAs we prepare for the Michigan District-LCMS Congregational Ministry Summit and Michigan LLL’s Lutheran Hour Rally Worship Service\, January 31 and February 1\, 2026\, respectively\, with Rev.
