SUMMARY:Intentional Interim Ministry Conference 2023
DESCRIPTION:Intentional Interim (Transitional) Ministry invites its practitioners to be well versed in and make skillful use/application of Bowen Family Systems Theory (BFST) in the observation\, evaluation\, and description of the health or ill-health affecting the life and mission of the Christian congregation to which they have been called. While such diagnosis cannot cause healing\, God can use it to point out where we might strategically place the “dynamite of the Gospel” (Romans 1:16) through which the Holy Spirit can bring healing\, wholeness\, life\, and salvation in Jesus. Dr. R. Robert Creech\, in his book\, Family Systems and Congregational Life: A Map for Ministry\, challenges us to consider the benefit of “a map” as we go about leading\, preaching\, caring\, building community\, and even how we read Scripture. (Upon registration\, you will receive a copy drop-shipped prior to the conference. Pre-reading will be anticipated.) \nEach conference participant will be invited to think critically with mature theological acumen as we share in a guided topical conversation of Dr. Creech’s book. Several of our own cohort will provide thorough and thoughtful lectures outlining the author’s major themes\, and guided table discussions and larger group exchange will enable us to benefit from shared learning.

DESCRIPTION:The theme of the 2023 Emeriti Conference is Biblical Perspective on People\, Places\, and Practices. We will focus on two fronts: biblical culture and our waning and waxing years. \n“Culture” encompasses values\, beliefs\, symbols\, norms\, and patterns of behavior that are under constant change\, just as they were in biblical times. SUMMARY:Deacon/Map Conference Fall 2023
DESCRIPTION:The danger for the Lutheran church that believes in the inerrant Word is to turn the Bible into holy information—true teachings that are to be understood by the mind alone. Such an approach reduces God’s living Word to the letters on the page\, better known by scholars than by those grasped by Jesus in faith. In Lutheran theology\, Holy Scripture is not a dead letter\, but a living one through which God kills human creatures in their sin and recreates them as the Holy Spirit regenerates and renews dead hearts. DESCRIPTION:“Abide in me\, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself\, unless it abides in the vine\, neither can you\, unless you abide in me.  I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him\, he it is that bears much fruit\, for apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:4–5 ESV). \nAbide. It seems simple: not working\, not doing\, not planning\, not preparing\, not teaching\, not preaching\, not organizing\, not leading … just abiding. Simple\, yet hard. When was the last time you had the opportunity or took the time to abide with Jesus—to be nourished\, encouraged\, forgiven\, strengthened\, and filled … by Him? During our PCWC 23\, we will abide … as we worship together\, receive together\, and laugh together. We will celebrate and challenge one another—not only in the sharing of new ideas for ministry\, but sharing a way of being and doing life and ministry together in Jesus!
