DESCRIPTION:The 2022 National Youth Gathering is upon us! \nFor more information about the National Youth Gathering visit: www.lcmsgathering.com. \nDistrict Event\nOn Sunday\, July 10 we have the opportunity to join together\, along with the Southern & Oklahoma Districts\, for fellowship\, food\, and fun in Hall A in the George A Brown Convention Center! Starting at 5:30 p.m. running through 7:30 p.m.\, we will have the entire Hall A with all its activities along with your choice of one of four wonderful meals\, each of which have Vegetarian\, Vegan\, and Avoiding Gluten options. When we consider our Christian lives and our attempt to follow God’s Word and plans\, it often seems difficult to see things clearly. God’s Word serves as a lens to correct our faulty vision. SUMMARY:Intentional Interim Ministry Spring Conference
DESCRIPTION:Living in healthy tension is essential in the Christian community. Tension avoidance\, either by the prevailing systemic life of the organization or by the interim leader\, will eventually lead to greater unhealth of the system and therefore lack of effective missional focus. A combination of lecture and guided table conversation will lead participants to greater awareness and application of the intentional use of healthy tension during the interim. SUMMARY:West Pastors Conference
DESCRIPTION:In these past few years\, it has been often difficult to find time for respite\, rest\, and renewal. How can one remain faithful and confident while diagnosing and navigating the ever-changing challenges of ministry? This conference seeks to address the dilemma and equip you with essential spiritual care and psychological resources so that you can respond in a healthy manner when trials come your way. Join us May 15–17 at the Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City\, and be encouraged and strengthened for these chaotic times. \nGuest speakers from DOXOLOGY will be presenting its “Take Heart” Respite Retreat. \nThis retreat is an advanced\, continuing education experience intended to provide respite\, rest\, and renewal for pastors. The respite retreat underscores five major emphases for healthy ministry. Pastors will be equipped to: \n1)  Diagnose existing challenges emerging in ministry; \n2) respond sensitively to difficult issues  to provide care\, insight\, and assistance; \n3)  apply spiritual care tools and psychological resources; \n4)  diminish future discouragement\, despair or depletion; and\, \n5)  sustain the work of faithful\, confident ministry as they return to the parish. \nThe retreat will provide encouragement\, enhance confidence\, and will strengthen pastors for ministry. Join us as we learn more about our nation’s Fault Lines. Our speaker is Rev. Fredric Hinz\, Public Policy Advocate for the Minnesota Districts of the LCMS. From his vantage point\, Hinz will provide an overview of a newly emergent worldview whose stated aim is the destabilization of our liberal democracy and the marginalization/destruction of the institutional Church\, and will also point us to the much-needed antidotes the Christian Gospel offers us in our time of national need. \nWhat does this mean? For centuries\, the belief that there was truth was not questioned. Certainly\, there was a great deal of debate about what was true and who had the right to determine truth. Yet\, the concept of truth remained central to our framework as a society. As if it was a ripple that has crossed time when Pilot dropped the pebble in the pond\, “What is truth” modern culture in the U.S. is in rebellion against the idea of truth. That rebellion challenges our comfortable and battle-tested approaches to ministry and mission. Dr. Jones’ presentation will propose strategies for equipping God’s people to be firmly rooted in God’s Word while testifying to God’s truth through word and deed. DESCRIPTION:“Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable\, so that when they speak against you as evildoers\, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation” (1 Peter 2:12). \nIt is difficult to live honorably as a child of God when the Church is increasingly marginalized and ridiculed. To be sure\, this is a consequence of evil in the world\, but it is also because God’s people don’t know the Scriptures and/or because they compromise what they believe or how they live in the world. \nGod’s Word is clear. We are “in the world” (John 17:11; Philippians 2:15) as “elect exiles” (1 Peter 1:1)\, and the nations (“the gentiles”) will observe our good deeds through our speech and actions. Because of this witness\, Peter writes\, even they will “glorify God on the day of visitation” (1 Peter 2:12)\, and Paul says that one day “… every knee will bow\, in heaven and on earth and under the earth\, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord\, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10–11). \nPlease join us for the 2022 Theological Conference on Saturday\, February 5\, at Our Savior\, Lansing. DESCRIPTION:Serving in a variety of leadership capacities as an Intentional Interim Pastor has enough challenges as it is! However\, in recent years two critical phenomena have simultaneously made congregational ministry even more challenging in this post-Christian era: the decline of the Church’s central place in community and the resultant aging and shrinking of congregations (with some notable exceptions) along with the resulting financial challenges to “keep the doors open\,” and the continued decline in the number of pastors available to serve in congregations. How might God want to use this time of often painful transition to renew and even expand His Kingdom? Intentional Interim Pastors are at the forefront of the conversation as they serve congregations in transition at critical junctures in their life cycle. \nHow do we have “Kingdom conversations” that go beyond “survival”? \n\nHow do we talk about closure?\nWhen is “revitalization” NOT an option?\nWhat is a “Legacy congregation”?\nWhat are the pros and cons of a dual parish?\nWhat is a “cathedral model”?\nHow do we talk about mergers?\nWhat part does “Kingdom geography” play in the discussion?\n\nGoing forward\, we will need several Interim pastors who have the courage and gifts to intentionally engage in these challenging conversations. DESCRIPTION:The Michigan District Board of Directors (BOD) is hosting four listening forums this fall. The Board would like to hear from you regarding (1) what you believe are the biggest challenges in our district right now; (2) what problems your congregation is facing right now; (3) what characteristics you think we need in the next district president; among other things. All church workers (active or retired)\, convention delegates\, lay leaders\, and laity are invited to come to one of these four events in preparation for the 2022 Michigan District Convention. DESCRIPTION:In this time when Covid-19 restrictions have lifted and we are considering how to function in non-anxious\, healthy ways\, this conference will explore how you can be merciful to yourself—in your spirit\, body\, mind\, relationships\, and ministry context—as your Father is merciful to you. Because you are loved by God through Christ\, come plan for how to offer His love to yourself and others. You will leave this conference with concrete action plans for how to grow and maintain such health. \nNote: All deacons will also need to complete their required paperwork and return them to Martha Wohlfeil by August 31.  You can download fillable forms here:  Deacon Forms and Policies. Be sure to start this process early and follow the instructions provided as you will need to collect signatures from various congregation members/supervising pastor etc.
