Continue reading below to learn more about each portion of the conference. \nNEW Church Worker Conference\nWhat is it? \nMembers of the Michigan District are a community. As a community\, we take the task of mutual support and care seriously. The New Church Worker Conference provides the District staff with an opportunity to help the newly-installed workers get connected to our community by giving them an overview of the Michigan District and its support systems. The gathering will include: \n\nIntroductions to key staff\nInformation about the District and its function\nBreak-out sessions to discuss regional information and answer questions\nFellowship\nFood\nAn opportunity to get to know Concordia University Ann Arbor\n\nWho is it for? \nALL new church workers are encouraged to attend. The list of invitees includes newly placed pastors\, newly placed commissioned (non-teacher) ministers\, ordained emeriti transferring in\, ordained and commissioned (non-teacher) active workers transferring in\, and ordained candidates transferring in and their spouses. \nSchedule for New Church Worker Portion \nThe schedule for the first part of the day will be available soon\, however\, for your planning we will begin at 10 a.m. and concludes at 2 p.m. with an option to tour CUAA from 2-3 p.m. \nQuest New Worker Conference \nWhat is it? \nThe goal of Quest is to support a successful transition into the real world of parish ministry through a collaborative community and mentor interactions. The program is successful when the newly commissioned and ordained workers experience community support from peers and mentors. \nThe event will help you to learn more about the support systems available to those who are new to parish ministry\, as well as cluster gatherings among the ministry specialties. The cluster gatherings will enable the newly ordained to discuss issues related to pastoral ministry and the newly commissioned to discuss issues related to their transition to parish ministry with other commissioned ministers. This fall gathering will serve as a foundation in preparation for an upcoming winter retreat. \nWho is it for? \nChurch workers who have been ordained or commissioned in the last 10 months. SUMMARY:Intentional Interim Ministry - Continuing Education Conference 2022
DESCRIPTION:Worship gatherings are central to the life and health of the Christian congregation. DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled. \n  \nThe ability to lovingly speak hard truths is an essential skill in all relationships\, but even more so in the ministry. Most of us would rather keep our mouths shut and avoid potential conflict than speak up and challenge that which needs to be challenged for the sake of the relationship. We need the kind of friends and family members who love us enough to tell us when we are off base or who will tell us when we have fallen short of our best effort. For the sake of healthy relationships and healthy ministries\, we need to be the kind of people who are willing and able to have the difficult conversations that will strengthen our ministry. Please join us for the Quest retreat this winter\, January 13 and 14\, as we lay the foundation of speaking the truth in love in ministry. This retreat is designed for those who were newly ordained or commissioned into parish ministry in 2021 or 2022 as well as their spouses.

DESCRIPTION:Intentional Interim (Transitional) Ministry invites its practitioners to be well versed in and make skillful use/application of Bowen Family Systems Theory (BFST) in the observation\, evaluation\, and description of the health or ill-health affecting the life and mission of the Christian congregation to which they have been called. While such diagnosis cannot cause healing\, God can use it to point out where we might strategically place the “dynamite of the Gospel” (Romans 1:16) through which the Holy Spirit can bring healing\, wholeness\, life\, and salvation in Jesus. Dr. R. Robert Creech\, in his book\, Family Systems and Congregational Life: A Map for Ministry\, challenges us to consider the benefit of “a map” as we go about leading\, preaching\, caring\, building community\, and even how we read Scripture. (Upon registration\, you will receive a copy drop-shipped prior to the conference. Pre-reading will be anticipated.) \nEach conference participant will be invited to think critically with mature theological acumen as we share in a guided topical conversation of Dr. Creech’s book. Several of our own cohort will provide thorough and thoughtful lectures outlining the author’s major themes\, and guided table discussions and larger group exchange will enable us to benefit from shared learning.
