DESCRIPTION:“May the God of peace\, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus\, that great Shepherd of the sheep\, equip you with everything good for doing His will\, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him\, through Jesus Christ\, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen” (Hebrews 12:20–21). \nIf you minister to children or youth\, or their parents\, you are probably experiencing an adventure. Children born after 2000 hold vastly different attitudes and behaviors toward learning and authority than previous generations. Add to that social media\, emotional distress\, relational stress\, short attention span\, fluid personal identity\, connection yet isolation\, and you will see the need for a different map than the one we grew up with and maybe even used in ministry. Please prayerfully consider being a part of this conference as together we study and discuss Tim Elmore’s book\, Marching Off the Map\, and its implications\, insights\, and strategies for ministry. Each participant will receive a copy of the book to aid in the conversation. It will be a blessed retreat as we march together in January. \n  \n

Deacons may assist with liturgy during a worship service\, teach Bible Studies\, and make visits to shut-ins and those in nursing homes. The program also provides initial theological training for laymen preparing to enter the LCMS SMP track toward ordination. The Ministry Assistant Training prepares women to be leaders in women’s ministry\, teach Bible Studies\, and make home and nursing home visits. DESCRIPTION:Introduction to IIM Ministry\nThe “Introduction to Intentional Interim Ministry” workshop is designed for those that are considering IIM as a part-time ministry when they retire. Attendance at an introductory workshop\, commitment to this ministry\, and District-sponsored continuing education are required to be recognized as a Michigan District Intentional Interim Minister. \nThere is a $55 fee to attend this conference\, which will include 2 books and a manual. (Lodging will be covered by the district.) \n     Intro to IIM Agenda \nIIM Continuing Education\nWhat do Pastors\, and particularly Intentional Interim Pastors\, have in common with explorers Louis and Clark? If you haven’t read Ted Bolsinger’s book\, Canoeing the Mountains\, you may not have a clue. But one of the keys is a well-defined mission that is “owned by the leader.” And another is the requirement of “self-differentiation” as a leader for any group of explorers. (Ministry in today’s world is definitely “off the map.”) By registering for this Continuing Education conference\, you will receive this important ministry book. You will also receive LCMS Texas District President Mike Newman’s new book\, Gospel DNA. (This too is a great read!) DESCRIPTION:“What’s Happening in Urban Ministry in the Michigan District\, LCMS?” \nA wonderful group of Jesus’ followers called ’55 ALIVE’ asked that question about a year ago. In an effort to answer them\, the 2019 Urban Ministry Conference was birthed. On Monday\, September 16\, 2019\, Camp Restore\, Detroit will host this special event. SUMMARY:Deacon\, Pre-SMP\, and Ministry Assistant Training Mini Recruitment Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Deacon\, Pre-Specific Ministry Pastor (SMP)\, and Ministry Assistant Training Program provides training for laity. Deacons may assist with liturgy during a worship service\, teach Bible Studies\, and make visits to shut-ins and those in nursing homes. The program also provides initial theological training for laymen preparing to enter the LCMS SMP track toward ordination. The Ministry Assistant Training prepares women to be leaders in women’s ministry\, teach Bible Studies\, and make home and nursing home visits. Both trained Deacon’s and Ministry Assistant’s help expand the pastoral ministry within the congregation and in their community. \nThis mini-recruitment meeting is geared towards men and women with the desire to serve their congregation\, gain biblical knowledge\, study Lutheran doctrine\, and become better trained to provide qualified leadership in their congregation under the direction of a supervising pastor. \nFor more information about the Deacon\, Pre-SMP\, and Ministry Assistant Program download brochures and please plan to attend the mini recruitment meeting. \nThere is no charge to attend.  Please RSVP by contacting Rev. DESCRIPTION:The 2019 National Youth Gathering is upon us! \n1. Michigan District T-shirt\nWe would love to have ALL groups represent our great state by buying and wearing our very own Michigan District NYG T-shirt!  Plan to wear them on Sunday\, July 14th!  That is the day of our Michigan District Event at Concordia University\, St. Paul!\n2. Bus Package  **Please contact Debbie Hughes or Randy Bickel if you have any questions. \n3.  District Event – We are excited to welcome 67 Michigan District congregations to our Minnesota Lumberjack Experience!  \nIt will be on Sunday\, July 14; 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. \nThe Lumberjack Show includes log rolling\, crosscut sawing\, and axe throwing. Your youth will be allowed to give these activities a try! There will also be wall climbing and live music.  There will also be a Taste of Minnesota dinner.  The menu includes: pulled chicken sandwich\, walleye sandwich\, veggie burger\, corn roast\, wild rice salad (cold)\, watermelon\, tater tot bar\, snicker salad\, ice cream\, and strawberry shortcake. Please note: Special dietary options will be available and clearly marked. \nThe event will take place on the campus of Concordia University St. Paul;  1282 Concordia Ave; St. Paul\, MN 55104. For those using the District Bus package\, transportation to the District event is included. For those who are not\, a Green Line Metro Transit Station is situated close to Concordia St. Paul. DESCRIPTION:Lutherans! Let’s love on Detroit! \nThe week of June 23-29 is going to be one of the busiest for Camp Restore Detroit (CRD) this summer. The Michigan District is helping recruit hundreds of volunteers to serve in all the areas that are asking for the camp’s assistance. \nAre you interested in a mission trip but do not want to travel far? At CRD\, there are opportunities for all ages to serve in VBS\, one sports camp\, construction\, and urban blight clean-up. You can restore hope in Detroit’s 9th Precinct by serving individually\, as a family\, or as a church group! CRD’s mission is to demonstrate Christian Hope while working together to restore the Detroit Community. Campers have found that joining the CRD community in service is rewarding in many ways. \nCampers can stay overnight in dormitory-like housing or commute. You can work one or more days or all week–whatever works best for you! \nWe still need 35 volunteers for our VBS/Sports Camps! \nVolunteer Today!

SUMMARY:Junior High Youth Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Jesus says\, “and you will know the truth\, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). We live in a world where each individual philosophy is dropping “truth bombs:” from hair to food; from clothing to identity. It is not that young people have no truths—it is that they are faced with thousands of them. All these “truths” compete for their minds\, their bodies\, and even their souls. To further complicate life\, Christianity is often reduced to a list of do’s and don’ts. The Truth that gives freedom—Christ’s work on the Cross and His resurrection for us—is our starting point. This May\, Jr. High students and the adults that care for them will come together in Frankenmuth to receive from Jesus and abide in his Word. Jesus for you! He is the #TRUTH that gives freedom.
