SUMMARY:Deacon\, Pre-SMP\, and Ministry Assistant Training Mini Recruitment Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Deacon\, Pre-Specific Ministry Pastor (SMP)\, and Ministry Assistant Training Program provides training for laity. Deacons may assist with liturgy during a worship service\, teach Bible Studies\, and make visits to shut-ins and those in nursing homes. The program also provides initial theological training for laymen preparing to enter the LCMS SMP track toward ordination. The Ministry Assistant Training prepares women to be leaders in women’s ministry\, teach Bible Studies\, and make home and nursing home visits. Both trained Deacon’s and Ministry Assistant’s help expand the pastoral ministry within the congregation and in their community. \nThis mini-recruitment meeting is geared towards men and women with the desire to serve their congregation\, gain biblical knowledge\, study Lutheran doctrine\, and become better trained to provide qualified leadership in their congregation under the direction of a supervising pastor. \nFor more information about the Deacon\, Pre-SMP\, and Ministry Assistant Program download brochures and please plan to attend the mini recruitment meeting. \nThere is no charge to attend.  Please RSVP by contacting Rev. DESCRIPTION:“May the God of peace\, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus\, that great Shepherd of the sheep\, equip you with everything good for doing His will\, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him\, through Jesus Christ\, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen” (Hebrews 12:20–21). \nIf you minister to children or youth\, or their parents\, you are probably experiencing an adventure. Children born after 2000 hold vastly different attitudes and behaviors toward learning and authority than previous generations. Add to that social media\, emotional distress\, relational stress\, short attention span\, fluid personal identity\, connection yet isolation\, and you will see the need for a different map than the one we grew up with and maybe even used in ministry. Please prayerfully consider being a part of this conference as together we study and discuss Tim Elmore’s book\, Marching Off the Map\, and its implications\, insights\, and strategies for ministry. Each participant will receive a copy of the book to aid in the conversation. It will be a blessed retreat as we march together in January. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Theological Conference 2020
DESCRIPTION:Christians in general\, and Christian families in particular\, are under spiritual and cultural attack. The result has been more families being broken and more individuals\, especially the young\, leaving their faith and inevitably our churches. \nThe typical fight-or-flight psychological reactions can readily be seen. Some churches and individuals who sense that their values and beliefs are under attack have embraced the flight response by isolating themselves from the community. Other churches and individuals have chosen the fight response using Scripture and reason to point a loud\, glaring finger at the failings and fallacies of culture and loved ones. \nThe goal of this conference—recognizing and rejoicing in the love of God for the world and the inspired truths of His Word—is to propose and examine a third response reflecting the Apostle Paul’s method of engaging the culture (and our relatives) by “speaking the truth in love.” This also reflects Jesus’ approach to sinners. \nOur prayer—and the goal of this conference—is that we all develop the capacity to engage the culture as we also seek to retain our young people (children and grandchildren) through healthy interactions under the blessing of our Lord. \n  \nConference Documents \nTheological Conference 2020 Booklet \nTheological Conference – Master Presentation File \nRev. On Thursday we will open with worship and have time for principals and directors to hear and share about pertinent issues pertaining to their unique roles as school leaders. On Friday\, Adam Russo will hold two engaging sections\, challenging us as educators in the importance and role of failure in a student’s social\, emotional\, and educational development. \nWe look forward to a blessed conference where we can encourage one another and grow as leaders of our Lutheran schools in the Michigan District.
