- Dealing with Diagnosis. This presentation explores the profound grieving process that accompanies a chronic health diagnosis and provides tools to help walk with parishioners and their loved ones through their grief.

Naomi J. Ishioka
Naomi J. Ishioka, RN MSN NHDP-BC CEN is the MDHHS Nurse Consultant for Stroke and STEMI Care. Prior to this role, she worked clinically for 25 years primarily in the emergency department setting. As the nurse consultant, Ishioka provides leadership, expert consultation, and technical assistance for a state-level program as well as to community-based agencies and other groups across the state. Naomi has spoken at multiple state and national conferences on the topics of patient care, coordination of care, disaster preparedness, and a variety of other topics.

Tammy Lemmer
Tammy Lemmer is with the Bureau of Aging, Community Living, and Supports at the MDHHS. The Bureau manages the state’s home and community-based services for older adults and adults with physical disabilities. She serves as a liaison to internal and external groups and collaborates on cross-department policies, projects, and programs. Her work includes projects addressing social determinants of health such as housing stability, awareness and access to services, and social connectedness.

Mandy Vergin
Mandy Vergin is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over a decade of experience in the mental health field. She has a B.A. in Theological Studies from Concordia University Chicago and an M.A. in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University, as well as a Level 2 Certification in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. She utilizes all of this to offer faith-based counseling to individuals and couples. Mandy owns a practice (New Mercies Counseling Services, LLC) and works in the Grand Haven, Mich. area, where her husband serves as an LCMS pastor.
