The danger for the Lutheran church that believes in the inerrant Word is to turn the Bible into holy information—true teachings that are to be understood by the mind alone. Such an approach reduces God’s living Word to the letters on the page, better known by scholars than by those grasped by Jesus in faith. In Lutheran theology, Holy Scripture is not a dead letter, but a living one through which God kills human creatures in their sin and recreates them as the Holy Spirit regenerates and renews dead hearts. We will look at the character of Holy Scripture as the viva vox Dei, the living voice of God, seeing how God forms His people and His church through the living letters of the Bible for His mission in the world.
Note: Deacon and Ministry Assistant Students are also invited to this Conference.
