Update on Supreme Court Leak on Abortion Decision2 min read

While those who are pro-life have yearned for the day when Roe v. Wade is overturned, we must be cautious and wait until the Supreme Court officially releases any decision on the Dobbs case. Even though a draft opinion has been leaked to the public showing that, as of February, the Court was poised to overturn Roe v. Wade, this is not the final decision, and votes can still be changed. The leak could be a pro-abortion staff member’s last-ditched effort to save Roe v. Wade. An investigation has ensued.

While the draft sounds hopeful, we will need to wait for the final decision by the court to be released. If Roe v. Wade is indeed overturned, then the issue will be returned to the states and to the voters. In Michigan, we already have a law that would go into effect banning abortion except to save the life of the mother. Of course, this will be challenged by those who wish to defend he “right to kill” babies in the womb. There is already a petition drive underway in Michigan to enshrine abortion in the State Constitution. If this petition comes to you, please do not sign it, and advise others not to sign it either. If passed, it would even strike down any and all restrictions that we have been able to put in place, including parental consent laws.

As God’s people, we must stand fast in defense of innocent human life and be the voice for the voiceless. The battle for Life will not end even if and when Roe v. Wade is overturned. We need to continue to pray—for the Justices, for the nation, for our State leaders, for women facing a crisis pregnancy, and of course, for the unborn babies who are such helpless victims in the plague of abortion. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer!

Thank you, Pastor Clark, for your clarity and encouragement and wisdom at this critical time. We live in such an opportune time to speak up for God’s gift of life, to answer the Lord’s call to love the least, and to share the Spirit’s proclamation of grace and mercy and peace in the Name of Jesus.

Since all Lutheran members may not have a computer or may access the Michigan District News, should not this message from Pastor Clark be posted in every LCMS church in Michigan?

“Standfast”, pray, while the abortion crowd goes to unbelievable, immoral and illegal efforts to stop Roe from being overturned. We’ll pick up the pieces later, wow. If now is not the time to be heard, when? If we standfast, silently and Roe remains constitutional next fall, what we say to the slain? I am not calling for anything but nonviolent protest but standfast is not a plan. It is time to be the spoke in the wheel that Bonhoeffer urges to protect the government from crushing those who can not defend themselves.

One of the best supporting Bible verses for Christian action and pastoral proclamation is 2 Chronicles 19:2. Woe to those who support those that oppose God’s Word, will, and ways in the matters of life, gender, and marriage!!!! We will love and offer grace to all people but must never support those that violate/plan on violating God’s standard that include that right to life!
