The theme In the Presence of the Caring Creator describes the focus of the triennial Lutheran Adult Gathering at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, October 14-16, 2016. The gathering will accent the wonder of God’s creation and our various responsibilities to care for it.
Gather others from your congregation and community and join for a great time of fellowship and inspiration at the spectacular Grand Hotel. The cost of the gathering includes two breakfasts and dinners.
Widely respected microbiologist Dr. Michael Behe will serve as keynote speaker. Dr. Behe, author of Darwin’s Black Box, will explore some of the intricate wonders of God’s creation of human beings.
Dr. Richard Swenson, popular speaker and author of Margins, will serve as our second keynote speaker. Dr. Swenson will examine our responsibilities to care for ourselves within the limits of our createdness.
Rev. Dr. Bradley J. Yops will serve as preacher for the gathering. Rev. Yops serves as pastor of NewLife Community Lutheran Church in Swartz Creek, Mich., and as the director of the Franklin Avenue Mission in Flint.
Activities at the Gathering include a champagne reception, delicious dining in the Grand Hotel, and a wide array of sectionals. The sectionals will help participants explore how to care for creation through community gardens, care of our own bodies, outreach to the needs of our neighborhoods, greater appreciation of the biological wonders of Michigan, and preparation of wills as a final act of stewardship.
Registration is $60/person. Hotel costs: single occupancy is $780.20 and double occupancy is $950.20. For more information and to register, click here.
The Gathering serves to promote healthy churches and accent both great commission and great compassion ministries.
